11/22/2011 - 3pm

On November 13th - 15th, nine of our students attended the Eastern Region TECA Conference.  While there, our problem solving team (consisting of five students) placed 2nd in Problem Solving at TECA (Technology Education Collegiate Association) East Conference.

The following technology education majors were involved in the competition:
Gary Camilleri
Joe Gragg
Brooks Medford
Dustin Roten
Max Steele

Nine schools competed in the competition, including NCSU and NC A&T.
California University of Pennsylvania received  in 1st place and State University of New York –Oswego  received 3rd .

The problem consisted of designing & building a prototype for an efficient stationary robotic arm in a limited amount of time (4 hours) using only the specified materials.  The robotic arm had to be at least 18 inches in length. The robotic arm had to be able to pick up an empty cup (in the upright position) and place it in the upright position at a designated location that is 12 inches away from its origin, then return to its base location.

11/03/2011 - 11am

Registration will open on the 7th. If you are a sophomore or higher, you are required to meet with your advisor (me) prior to signing up for classes. Please feel free to contact me to schedule and time to meet if you have not already done so.

Technology Education shirts are now available. The long sleeve black t-shirts are really nice and have the tech ed logo on them.  They are $25.00 or  free for TECA members once they pay their  dues. Stop by my office to get yours today!  The image is attached.  Be sure to check it out.

Nine students will be attending the TECA East conference – November 13-15, 2011 – at Virginia Beach.
They will be competing in several competitions including problem solving, tech challenge, communication and teaching lesson.

Be sure to wish them luck if you see them.  They are Dustin Roten, Max Steele, Joe Gragg, Brooks Medford, Trey Boggs, Matt Watson, Gary Camilleri, Colin Clark and Hillary Bowlin.

08/31/2011 - 1pm

Hi! I just wanted to take a moment and welcome all of you back to school or to Appalachian State University.

I just wanted to let you know about a few things that are going on in our program right now.

1.       All of our graduates have jobs.  Good jobs in great counties.  I think that is a definite plus .  There are numerous job openings right now in technology education.  We currently do not have enough graduates to fill all of the job openings.

2.       Appalachian State University is one of two institutions in the state and  one of three in southeast region that prepares technology education teachers.  You will be in high demand upon graduation, know that!

3.       Our student organization, ASU TECA, is actively involved in regional and national conferences.  We are proud to have the International TECA President-Elect in our program.  ASU TECA will be meeting in the next few weeks.  I encourage each of you to get involved in this organization.

4.       I would also like to encourage you to get involved in ITEEA, our international professional organization.  Right now they are offering a discounted rate to first time student members of $25.00.  This rate is only available until the end of September.   Here is the link to join:

http://www.iteea.org/Membership/membership.htm

5.       We will be going several places this year.  I hope that each of you decide to attend these activities. Below is a list of the activities that you are encouraged to be  involved in as a technology education major.

·         TECA East – Virginia Beach VA – November 13-15, 2011

·         NC Western Region TSA Conference - Appalachian State University – February 24,2012

·         ITEEA’s 74th Annual Conference – Long Beach, CA – March 15-17, 2012

·         NC TSA State Conference – Greensboro, NC – early April

Feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.  Know that I am here to help you and want you to be successful in this program.

Kind Regards,

Dr. Taylor
