Taiwan - Renewable Energy Issues, Technology, and Research

PRE-TRAVEL CLASS MEETINGS:
Scheduled for May 28 - June 1, 2012.

Program Travel Dates: June 2 - June 20, 2012

This three-week program, one week at Appalachian State and two weeks in Taiwan, provides an ideal opportunity for students interested in renewable energy and energy issues to discover the Asian perspective. Nations such as Taiwan, China, and Japan have made major commitments to develop photovoltaics (solar electric modules) and wind energy. The program features a variety of activities at the renewable energy training lab at Ching Yun University and site visits to photovoltaic manufacturing plants and solar/ wind mega-projects all around the island.

In addition, there will be visits to a variety of historical and cultural sites, as well as night-time venues such as night markets and entertainment spots. Finally, the trip will venture to the amazing natural world still preserved in one of the world's most densely populated areas – see cliffs and powerful waves along the east coast and Taroko Gorge, spectacular high-mountain Sun-Moon Lake, the beautiful tropical beaches of southern Taiwan, and the Penghu Island archipeligo with the famous Penghu Island wind farm.

Cost: $3,295
