Sustainability Conference Inspires Department

The Department of Sustainable Technology & the Built Environment sent a group of students and faculty to the ASSHE Conference in Baltimore October 9-12. ASSHE, The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, offers an annual conference with hundreds of workshops exploring sustainability issues. Both students and faculty came back inspired and energized. Dr. Jim Houser, faculty member in the department, was challenged by how much energy is purportedly used each time an individual pushes enter on a search engine... equal to boiling one cup of water. "It really gave me something to think about... We think we're saving so much energy by going paperless, but e-communication still uses more than we think. It's really about reducing our impact and being aware."
